About the City of Cascade

Cascade is a rural town of nearly 2,400 people located in Eastern Iowa. The city's boundaries are shared by both Dubuque and Jones County, and is located between the communities of Dubuque and Monticello on Highway 151. Originally established in 1834, Cascade is home to several local businesses that have been owned and operated by long-time Cascade families. With a Catholic Church, 2 elementary schools, a Junior / Senior High School, beautiful scenery, and ample career opportunities, Cascade is a perfect place to raise a family.

Cascade has several great things to see around town. There is a historic downtown with great shops that feature antiques, giftware, as well as varied and delicious dining options. There are some great outdoor spaces including Riverview Park & Amphitheater is in the center of town along the North Fork of the Maquoketa River, which showcases some great views of the river and the falls, and live music during the summer. Cascade is also home to the Tri-County Historical Society Museum, historic structures like the Old Jail, and the Cascade Limestone Silo. Cascade is also home to one of the newest murals in the State of Iowa, painted on the side of a downtown building by Iowa Muralist Ben Schuh in November of 2023.

Cascade is known for a couple of famous residents, including Red Faber, who was born and raised in Cascade before being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 1914, and was the victor in three games of the 1917 World Series against the Giants. Cascade is also proud to claim Gary Dolphin, who is the long-time and current radio play-by-play broadcaster for the University of Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams.

Attend events hosted at the Ellen Kennedy Fine Arts Center, the Cascade Legion Baseball Park, or take a summer swim in the brand new City Pool. Join Cascade locals at spectacular annual events like the Cascade Hometown Days, the Sunset Street Markets, or Independence Day.

For more information about the rich history of the Cascade area, please visit the Tri-County Historical Society.

Whether you are looking for a new place to call home or a place for a visit, Cascade has plenty to offer, and welcomes you to come see why locals call it "A Place We Call Home."
